Movie Review

Drag me to hell was one of the worst American horror films of 2009. I give 5 stars to the amazingly decieving trailer though. The movie wasnt scarey at all. It was rather more comidic. Rated PG-13 running for an hour and 39 min the film was subjected to the Mystery and Suspense, horror genre. I found myself laughing more than I was afraid. Possibly if the cast was more well known it would have been better. However the movie bring in 90.8 million dollars world wide, probably from its decieving trailer. Direceted by Sam Raimi, the film lost the true title of a horror film. Writters Ivan Raimi and Sam Raimi had a good story line.
Suprisingly Scary Movie 4 being a sequal and part of a series was a great film. It gave a fresh and modern twist to the previous films. It kept the same story line and main characters from the previous films, throwing in young popular actors. This movie brought back the suspense of a true scary movie. Rated R running for an hour and 50 min this film is accuratly placed in the Mystery and suspense, horrow genre. The movie made 38.1 million throughout the states. Director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson make a great team. Scream 4 was the best movie out of its series.

3 city travel

Starting my vacation off in the city that never sleeps, New York,New York, I stayed in the gorgeous Milford Paza. To my convience the hotel was located in the theater district, within 2 blocks of Times Square. With rates starting at $129, I was able to be a true tourist. I made sure to see Catch Me if You Can on broadway since im such a big fan of the movie. After that we jetted to make our 8:00 reservations at Nobu. I splurged $42 on a dinner plate called the King Krab Tempura. I love seafood and it was well worth the price. My friend Tiffany ordered the Chilean Sea Bass with Black Bean Sauce for $36. Of corse we swapped plates and raved over such delicious food. Ending a nice day off back in our hotel we got ready for our morning flight to Miami Florida.

After checking into the lovely four seasons hotel I realized that I didnt even need to leave the hotel. To start my day off I signed up for a signature treatment at their spa called the "Total Relaxation Programme" For $468 in 280 minute I was totally relaxed. The treatment began with a welcoming herbal tea, foot treatment and de-stress facial. i got a full-body scrub, inner journey massage, a rose body wrap and to top it all off a spa lunch. I was litterally glowing. Feeling great i decided to try something new. I called up the Miami Seaquarium and before I knew it I was swimming with the dolphins. The program was called Dolphin Odyssey. First I learned about magnificent marine mammals in an interactive classroom presentation. Then I was suited up in a wetsuit for my fun filled, deep water interaction with a dolphin. I have was able to kiss, hug, dance, rub and get up-close and personal with the dolphins. I even rode a dolphin across the pool. Returning to my hotel to prepare myself for Miami's night life with Tiffany. We went club hopping from club Space, to club Fame and Dream.

While I was in California, I stayed in the Ritz-Carlton hotel. It was beautiful and very 21st century. For my morning i did typical tourist things. I went on a TMZ tour bus ride passing ceberaty hot spots and homes. I even walked the holloywood walk of fame. Snooki from Jersey Shore was there! Around dusk I drifted to the Santa Monica Pier. It was so pretty. I stayed for a while then had dinner at Beso. Beso is this new resturant that Eva Longoria Parker and celeb chef Todd English opened up. Overall my three location travel trip was amazing. I think every year I will pick 3 different locations and do the samething.

Punto Rojo

Punto Rojo

Date of Review: May 24

This Colombian bakery and restaurant serves great food at an affordable price. They have an amazing entree called "Poor Dish". Despite the name, this native dish that includes so much for just $8.95. For that price you receive a grilled steak, two eggs, beans, rice with a ripe plantain. To top off that meal, I'd wash it down with "the Goddess Of Love". Banana, honey, milk and eggs make this delicious sweet mix.

The service is very family like and friendly just as the ambiance. You can find all types of people dinning from families, teenage groups of friends, and cooperate America settling down in a relaxing enviorment. Punto Rojo is highly recommended.

Judgement Day

May 21st has alot of people concerned. Some people believe that the end of the world and that God will come and make his decisions. I do believe that will happen one day, just not this week. In the bible it says no ONE will know. I just wonder what they'll come up with when its May 22nd and nothing happened. Since the date of judgement day isnt in the bible I dont know how they came up with it. The Mayan calander has nothing to do with christainity. And what happened to the world ending in 2012, its still 2011. SO in my eyes this is all a load of bull crap. People are just making up and changing the date of when the world will end when they should be celevrating and living life. Instead of worrying about things they don't know about or cant control.

Eyebrow threading

Yesterday for the first time ever I got my eyebrows threaded. Now if you dont know what that is, its when pure, thin, twisted cotton thread is rolled over untidy hairlines, like moustaches, eyebrows and other areas of unwanted hair, plucking the hair at the follicle level. It had to be the most painful experience of my life by far. I had never felt a pain like that. As a female im very picky about my eyebrows. I like the done a certain way and by a certain person. But yesterday was different. I made an exception to get them done at a local place near the school. I had heard they were really good and since the place I would orginally go to get them waxed would be closed by the time I got there, I decided to test them out. Not only did it hurt like a female dog, the service was awful. I was tight for the rest of the day. Never again will i try that .. . NEVER again.

who wore it best

One of the best things in celebrity gossip is to see who wore it best. Celebreties spotted wearing the same outfit draws alot of attention to the public. I personality find it fun and exciting to debate over who gets the crown for wearing it best. Here are a few photos of celebreties wearing the same outfit. Make a decision and then see who one. Its addictive, you'll want to see more and more photos!

Releasing Osama Photos

I'm in the middle of the debate as of whether or not the post-mortem photos of Bin Laden should be published. I do however know that you can't please everyone. Doubters will still doubt the event. Then again if someone has joy over seeing those photos, it really says a lot about the person as an individual and us as a nation. But then I do think the government should release the photos because of the lack of trust the nation has towards the government. Its kind of only fair to release the photos because I do remember watching the video of Saddam Hussein being hung. I understand where the people are coming from that want to see the photos just for self assurance. But releasing the photos could cause more rage and anger from Al Qaeda or peace groups. I'm honestly glad I'm not the one making the decision to publish the photos because there its too difficult to decide.

Thursday

Society Views

Why is it that athletes, actresses and celebrities get paid more than fighter fighters, teachers, and soldiers. How is that fair. A baseball player gets paid millions for a seasonal job when a teacher who molds young minds makes now where near that. It just goes to show whats really important to society and what we as Americans view to be important. I'm curious to know what can change that, how can we change that. My mother teachers special education children with special needs, is that important? And if it is to whom? I dont understand how an athlete is more important than someone who puts out flamming fires. Better yet the many men and women who serve our country vountarily. I just hope that the way society views whats important and who gets paid most will change, for my childeren and theres, so on and so forth.

Japan Radiation

8.9 Earthquake Slams Japan

Following the earthquake and tsunami, cooling systems at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant have failed. Declaring a nuclear emergency in Japan for the first time. Evacuating 140,000 residents Within 20km Of the plant. Now there are unsafe levels of radioactive contamination in the air, drinking water, milk and crops near the area of the plant.
Exposure to levels of radiation -above the standard measure of absorbed radiation- can result in radiation sickness, producing a range of symptoms. Nausea and vomiting often begin within hours of exposure, followed by diarrhea, headaches and fever. After the first round of symptoms, there may be a brief period with no apparent illness, but this may be followed within weeks with new and more serious symptoms. At higher levels of radiation, these symptoms may be immediately apparent, along with widespread - and potentially fatal - damage to internal organs. Exposure to a radiation  at such a high dose will typically kill about half of all healthy adults.

Japan's elderly

Japanese families eat dinner at a shelter on March 16, 2011 in Kesennuma, located in the northeast of Miyagi prefecture.
Japan being populated with nearly a quarter of its people aged 65 or older, the recent disaster has been a haevy burden for Japan's elderly to bear. The 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami that hit the northeastern coast of Japan wiped out rural villages and towns. Rural areas such as those same towns and villages are largely filled with elderly communities because younger people most likely to reside in the city. As the focus shifts from rescue to relief and recovery efforts, Japan's elderly victims facechallenges in the weeks, months and even years ahead, experts say. Sarah Harper, who studies implications of aging societies said "When faced with disaster, older people are physically and psychologically affected in different ways than younger people." This is a stressing issue because the elderly are vulnerable to the effects of a disaster like this, but dealing with the loss of  family members, homes and possessions ae even more to handle, finding themselves now far more dependent on outside help more then they've ever have been. With deccreasing flexabilty and weakened immune systems, the elderly are at much higher risks than others to falling ill. Japanese Red Cross medical teams have been treating the elderly for hypothermia and infectious diseases such as influenza.
Many of them lost medication for chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes while fleeing the double disaster.

Parent Teacher Confrences

Yes that dreadful day kids all around the nation fear, Parent Teacher Conferences. Before high school when your in junior high and elementary there is absolutely NO WAY of getting around Parent Teacher Conferences. The school notifies the house and the teachers would send you home with papers that your parents would read while showing you how to do your homework and etc. Now that we're in high school its so much easier to hide it from our parents. Even with students with decent grades don't want their parents coming to the school because they cut to much or have bad behavior or whatever the reason. The worse part about Parent Teacher Conferences is that some teachers just have to give a test. And when you parent goes to speak with your teacher, they have the nerve to give them the graded test.  Not to mention the school happily gives your guardian a copy of your report card. If your parent is like mine, my mother goes to the conferences straight from work with out me. So I don't even know what to expect when until she gets home.

Wednesday

School drolls

The fatige of being a female, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a student, and an athlete is wereing down on me. Especially this whole school situation. Taking the same route to the same building, walking the same way to class to sit in the same seat next to the same faces everyday is starting to effect me. Im getting bored of school. So bored to the point were I'd rather just stay home and do nothing there. You know if you think about it there are people with multiple college degrees, bachelors and masters working in Mcdonalds. I dont want to waste the time in college or the money on college if I'm just going to end up a grown women working in Mcdonalds next to a sixteen year old because theres no jobs. My mother says that by the time I get out of college the economy will be better including more jobs but whos to say we'll even wake up tomorrow. I guess I just dont want college to be ANYTHING like high school because high school bores me. And dont get me wrong I dont have bad grades and I have loads of friends but im just BORED .

Monday

420

Wed. April 20th will be the start of the Kid Cudi concerts in NYC. Following with Thursday and Friday shows all held at Roseland Ballroom 239 West 52nd Street. Tickets range from $49.50 - $303.83. Chip tha Rippa will be performing too but it would be much better with Wiz Khalifa. Saving money for a goal is actually really hard. I'm trying to get $75 so that at least I'll have descent seats. But being a teenage girl with many needs gets in the way of that. So far I have $60 but I'm sure that will change because I'm hungry, lol. That means I'm buying food after school unless I can hold out until I get home which I don't that. If I do make it home with out spending money, I'm sure I'll spend some of that money by this weekend or the end of the week. The week has just begun its Monday -____________- hopefully I gain some will power.

Bullying

Bullying is a widespread and serious problem thoughout the nation. Bullying can cause serious and lasting harm. Actions done on purpose to control or harm someone with repition or even once IS BULLYING!
Bullying comes in many forms such as:
  • Verbal: name-calling, teasing
  • Social:spreading rumors, leaving people out on purpose, breaking up friendships
  • Physical: hitting, punching, shoving
  • Cyberbullying: using the Internet, mobile phones or other digital technologies to harm others
The effects of bullying are different for everyone. Some are shown
  • Be unwilling to attend school
  • Receive poor grades
  • Have lower self-esteem
  • Have more health problems
  • Use alcohol and drugs
  • Skip school
  • Victimization
The outcome of bullying can be tramendous. Studies show that at least half of suicides amoung young people are related to bullying. As the saying goes if you see something say something! Don't be afraid to speak out. If something, someone or even if you see something bothersome TELL SOMEONE. Dont wait until its too late.

I think Obama is sort of sugar coating things. Theres a difference between bullying and plain harrassment. He needs to encourage people to speak out because thats where it starts. If no one says anything the problems cant be fixed. Bullys have taken things to a whole new level and their should be legall action taken against them.

Pete King

U.S. Representative for New York's 3rd District, Republican Pete King is scapegoating muslisms. Claiming that they are responsible for terist attacks when in all honesty most terrist attacks and affliations are of Christian Americans. I dont see why hes even in government. With views like that which are unconstitutional he should be out of a job. There ae more pressing issues then attacking a religion or race.

Wednesday

Royal Memorabilia

As most of the world knows Prince William and Kate Middleton are soon to wed. With fascination of this royal union comes royal memorabilia. The latest title wave of royal wedding collectibles is the Kate Middleton doll. Selling for $195 a Kate doll with chestnut hair, wearing a blue silk dress accessorized with jewels could be yours to keep. The other doll of the set would be the bridal version being released after the Royal wedding. With technology and Internet being far along now the occasion-based memorabilia are more globally available. British designers are anticipation large sales.

Tuesday

Premartail Sex

Because of my religion I believe that Premarital Sex is wrong. As a Christain we believe that you should save yourself for marriage. As an issue to the cum unity I too believe that Premarital Sex is wrong. The rise of sexually transmitted diseases and birth are crazy. And besides that I personally think that sex is something special and important. I bond between two. Virginity is something that you can never get back. Something precious that should be cherished and shared with someone who values it just as much as you do. As generations progress the age for permaritail sex decreases be coming younger and younger. But over all ever one is different and sees things from different prospectives.

Friday

Queens Chruch Robbed

St. Bartholomew’s Church on Ithaca Street in Elmhurst, NY was robbed sometime after the congregation left around 7:30pm Saturday. The holy items were snatched from a back closet including five Chalices, two communion cups, and even a communion box. All items are worth an estimated $5,500. In my opinion this must have been an inside job, someone that visited the church or goes to the Church because there is no way a regular civilian would have the knowledge of when the Church is empty or where those items were. Well the person who did this clearly have no moral values because robbing a chruch is like stealing from the good Lord himself.

Thursday

US Retail

Gas prices in the US have been an issue now for years. People are starting to notice $3.50 a gallon throughout the country. Most of the nations retailers reported an increase in sales for the month of Feburary. Mr.Perkins. president of Retail Metrics stated that "Sales might have been better had we not seen this precipiteous rise in gas prices... if it is sustainable and goes to $4, it is really going to have an effect". Haley Barbour, Mississippi governer accused the Obama Administration of hiking energy costs in efforts to promote alternative fuels.

SOTFBALL SEASON 2011

Im so excited right now . I just went on the website and the softball schedules are up. Softball has to be one of my favorite sports besides volleyball. Our first game is march 22 against a school thats REALLY good. Yesterday we had our first unofficial practice and of corse not many people showed up since our coach wasnt there. There was myself, my big sis/bestfriend Kaern, Liz, Lana and Krystal (also known as freshmen). Its clear to see whos dedicated and commited to the team. EVERYONES hitting has improved from last year. Last year the team was awful. We were 3-11 It seemed like indiviually we were decent players but we never found that "thing" as a team. But this is our year , wether im on 2nd base or short stop, I have high hopes for this team . Cant wait for the first game x3

 Hungry in School

Have you ever been hungry in school? It’s about the worse feeling alive. All you can think about is that you’re hungry. Then you go around being annoying to all your friends asking if they have food, chips, gum, anything. So now it’s been about 2 periods of emptiness in your stomach and empty thoughts in your brain and you’re cursing yourself because you forgot to go to the store in the morning before school to stock up on snacks. In a delicate situation like this you can only be mad at yourself, so then you get even more upset because you can’t blame anyone but yourself. As soon as school is over the first thing you do is GET FOOD :D  Don’t act like you don’t know what I'm talking about.

*People should visit and read my blog because there's a variety of subjects and appealing to all types of readers. I’m always open and up for suggestions and comment (:

Portfolio Assessment

12-7-10 Love at First Sight : I chose to include this as one of my best 5 posts because its a topic that's been in discussion for years. People have various opinions as to whether or not its possible to have love upon first sight. In this post I gave my opinion and gave my reasons to support it.

12-8-10 Hungry in School : This blog is about being hungry in school. Its short and animated with description and details. Reading this your able to see threw the eyes of a student and the effect hunger has on their school work.

12-15-10 NY Daily News : For this blog I wrote about the infamouss Dolphins vs Jets game, where the Jets strength coach tripped the Dolphin corner back. I included the fines, the play, statements, pretty much everything that had to do with that situation and an article link.

1-14-11 Apologies : This is one of my best blogs because I put a lot of effort into this topic. I researched this threw the Internet and asked fellow classmates. There was also a lot of feeling and emotion into this.

1-21-11 The Adventures of Huckle Berry Fin : This blog is about a trending topic. The controversy of the *n word used in the novel and its republishing. Just like the other blog, I researched this topic through the use of the Internet .

My biggest strength as a blogger are the topics that I choose to write about and the animation and detail I include. However my weakness is that I don't go in depth, I never dig deeper beneath the surface. My blogs demonstrate my growth as a writer in learner, they're becoming longer in length and thr quality is exspanding as more blogs are posted.

The Adventures of Huckle Berry Finn

Mark Twain author of The Adventures of Huckle Berry Finn published in 1884 has recently hit the news. For many years there's been controversy over this novel dating back to 1955. This year there's rumor of the book being republished to change the *n word to slave. I being African American & Panamanian Amercian don't have a problem of the use of the *n word in the novel because i understand that its just a book. That's how people talked in that time period and you just cant change history. You cant just try to cover up something or pretend it didn't happen. There are black authors who used the *n word and even some who used terms for white people too. Those novels too should be considered subject to change. Right now I'm reading To Kill A Mocking Bird and the *n word is frequently used. Are they going to republish it too? I don't think they should republish anything. The books have already been read and the authors have already died. I bet if the authors were still alive society wouldn't be doing this. Educators and others of high authority should speak up. Because of they change a simple traditional book, they can change the color blue to red.

Wednesday

Jan . 2011 English Regents

This year was the newest version of the English regents. Alot of kids that took it in the past were upset because they made it easier. In previous years, it was a 6 hour test divided into 2 days, with about 6 essays . This was the first year that it only had 1 essay, 25 multiple choice,  and 2 short responses. The state will be able to curve the test making the majority of students to pass. So theres pretty much no possible way any one can fail.
The quote for the easy was really hard though but once I got started it became easier. The quote was something like the world is full of suffrage but it is also full of overcoming it. When I saw that I was stumped. I had no idea how I can compare that to any books so i just made something up. I used novels To Kill A Mocking Bird and Oliver Twist. The bad part was that i didnt know the names of the authors. I said one of the themes of To Kill A Mocking Bird was be a leader not a follower. I spoke about how Atticus didnt listen to the community when they discouraged his choice to defend a black man against a white family in a rape case. His attempt to over come black sufferage. I also included the irony how he tried to win a case he knew he would lose and how they lost in the end. For the other novel I just babbled on about his sufferage in the orfanage and how his characterization always led him to the right choices and in the in he over came all of his disadvantages.
On the multiple choice I got a 22/25 . for the short responses I got 2/2 on both of them and for the essay a 4/6 (:

Apologies

Apology - An acknowledgment expressing regret or asking pardon for a fault or offense .

So why is it so hard for people to apologize? A friend of mine just told me that in order to receive an apology, you might have to say sorry first. I disagree. I think that if your not wrong, theres no reason to apologize. You shouldn't have to say sorry for someone to say sorry to you. Through research I found out that apologies are harder for more then others. I have no problem accepting that I was at fault and giving an apology when it is due. My research has led me to the conclusion that being apologetic is an honorable quality that many people lack. There are so many reasons people don't or cant apologize. Admitting guilt, excepting responsibility or they're arrogance and pride get in the way. I believe an apology should come from the heart, so if you don't mean it, don't say it.

I think its easier for teens to apologize to each other then for adults. But teensmost likely wont say I'm sorry, they'd say my bad or my fault which is read like an apology. Many view saying sorry as a sign of weakness. I think its hard for adults to apologize to each other because they don't want to be wrong. And for an adult to apologize to a child is probably one of the hardest things they could ever do. Adults usually think that because of their age they're wiser. So therefore they know whats right and whats wrong. So for them to show humiliation to someone much younger then them is difficult. But if I can swallow my pride as a teenager then so can anyone else.

Thursday

-_-

I dont like rude or disrespectful teachers . If theres an issue we should be able to discuss it as mature adults. They think that just because they're older or because they have the title "teacher" they could say/do whatever they want. I dont take bull crap from no one. I had a vocab test for another class, little to my teachers knowledge I dont have the words so I was copying them from a fellow student and this teacher comes out of no were taking stuff like its his. Who snatchs anymore? Adults dont snatch. 3 year olds do. First of all dont ever do some dumb crap like to the me ever in your life. That made me loose ALL the respect I ever had for him. Second if you dont know whats going on dont assume anything. Little to his knowlege I had already did work for the day and not only that, once I finished what I was doing which was copying definitions I was going to began another post. Im glad I personally choose the high road, because the old me would have ripped up everyone of his papers turned the computer off (so now no work have gotten done) and on top of that while I was leaving I would have told him to call my mother if theres a problem.

lets take a break (relationships)

When a couple takes a break or needs space/time apart, they need to figure things out. What kind of things? Well thats exactly whats the break is for. To see what you want from the relationship and to see if thats what your getting. It really is a personal thing. One person might want this break and the other might not. It all depends on the person, but most likely they're just confused and dont want to continue with the relationship until they know for sure what they want and what they're doing. I can understand why the relationship would even come that far. You dont want to break up, you still want to be with them but theres a BUT. And in a relationship or love there shouldnt be any BUTs. Thats what i think though. I mean how would it sound if you said i want to be with you BUT or i like you BUT. The break/space is to figure why theres a BUT or how to fix it.
At the end of the if they really want to be with that person the couple will figure out away to fix everything thats broken. <3

My Nationality

From the way I speak, to the way my hair is someone seems to always know or ask me if im mixed. Im Panamanian and African American. I was born here in America. And I cant even remember the time I went to Panama. But for some reeason someone always picks up on my accent. I dont think I have one and I never thought I did. I have some trouble prononcing words but I didnt think thats because of an "accent"  I just thought it was because I used to have braces >.<

1961 - New York Yankees

1961 is just about 50 years ago from today. A mouth worthy event of that time is when the New York Yankees won the World Series against the Cincinnati Reds . But the real battle was between two yankee teamates, Micky Mantle and Roger Maris. They were fighting for The American League Homerun title. Roger Maris was able to hit a whopping of 61 homeruns beating Micky Mantle and even breaking Babe Ruths 34 year old major league baseball record. Come to think of it baseball has really changed since then. All sports have. Instead of playing for pride and a love of the sport , fame and money including the pressure to be most successful have corrupted must of its athletes.

Happy New Years!

Welcome 2011 and good bye 2010 . With the new year always comes a new look . I dyed my hair and pierced my nose (: New years resolutions? hmm , i just want to better my religious relationship with God . Other then that from past experiences I've learned that i tend to break of all of my new years resolutions . So why make them ? People make new years resolutions to set goals for themselves and by the time next year rolls around they realized that they had already abandoned them a month after they set them . But this year will be my last FULL year of high school . So im ready for 2011 and i cant wait to see what this year has to offer .
