Japan Radiation

8.9 Earthquake Slams Japan

Following the earthquake and tsunami, cooling systems at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant have failed. Declaring a nuclear emergency in Japan for the first time. Evacuating 140,000 residents Within 20km Of the plant. Now there are unsafe levels of radioactive contamination in the air, drinking water, milk and crops near the area of the plant.
Exposure to levels of radiation -above the standard measure of absorbed radiation- can result in radiation sickness, producing a range of symptoms. Nausea and vomiting often begin within hours of exposure, followed by diarrhea, headaches and fever. After the first round of symptoms, there may be a brief period with no apparent illness, but this may be followed within weeks with new and more serious symptoms. At higher levels of radiation, these symptoms may be immediately apparent, along with widespread - and potentially fatal - damage to internal organs. Exposure to a radiation  at such a high dose will typically kill about half of all healthy adults.

Japan's elderly

Japanese families eat dinner at a shelter on March 16, 2011 in Kesennuma, located in the northeast of Miyagi prefecture.
Japan being populated with nearly a quarter of its people aged 65 or older, the recent disaster has been a haevy burden for Japan's elderly to bear. The 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami that hit the northeastern coast of Japan wiped out rural villages and towns. Rural areas such as those same towns and villages are largely filled with elderly communities because younger people most likely to reside in the city. As the focus shifts from rescue to relief and recovery efforts, Japan's elderly victims facechallenges in the weeks, months and even years ahead, experts say. Sarah Harper, who studies implications of aging societies said "When faced with disaster, older people are physically and psychologically affected in different ways than younger people." This is a stressing issue because the elderly are vulnerable to the effects of a disaster like this, but dealing with the loss of  family members, homes and possessions ae even more to handle, finding themselves now far more dependent on outside help more then they've ever have been. With deccreasing flexabilty and weakened immune systems, the elderly are at much higher risks than others to falling ill. Japanese Red Cross medical teams have been treating the elderly for hypothermia and infectious diseases such as influenza.
Many of them lost medication for chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes while fleeing the double disaster.

Parent Teacher Confrences

Yes that dreadful day kids all around the nation fear, Parent Teacher Conferences. Before high school when your in junior high and elementary there is absolutely NO WAY of getting around Parent Teacher Conferences. The school notifies the house and the teachers would send you home with papers that your parents would read while showing you how to do your homework and etc. Now that we're in high school its so much easier to hide it from our parents. Even with students with decent grades don't want their parents coming to the school because they cut to much or have bad behavior or whatever the reason. The worse part about Parent Teacher Conferences is that some teachers just have to give a test. And when you parent goes to speak with your teacher, they have the nerve to give them the graded test.  Not to mention the school happily gives your guardian a copy of your report card. If your parent is like mine, my mother goes to the conferences straight from work with out me. So I don't even know what to expect when until she gets home.

Wednesday

School drolls

The fatige of being a female, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a student, and an athlete is wereing down on me. Especially this whole school situation. Taking the same route to the same building, walking the same way to class to sit in the same seat next to the same faces everyday is starting to effect me. Im getting bored of school. So bored to the point were I'd rather just stay home and do nothing there. You know if you think about it there are people with multiple college degrees, bachelors and masters working in Mcdonalds. I dont want to waste the time in college or the money on college if I'm just going to end up a grown women working in Mcdonalds next to a sixteen year old because theres no jobs. My mother says that by the time I get out of college the economy will be better including more jobs but whos to say we'll even wake up tomorrow. I guess I just dont want college to be ANYTHING like high school because high school bores me. And dont get me wrong I dont have bad grades and I have loads of friends but im just BORED .

Monday

420

Wed. April 20th will be the start of the Kid Cudi concerts in NYC. Following with Thursday and Friday shows all held at Roseland Ballroom 239 West 52nd Street. Tickets range from $49.50 - $303.83. Chip tha Rippa will be performing too but it would be much better with Wiz Khalifa. Saving money for a goal is actually really hard. I'm trying to get $75 so that at least I'll have descent seats. But being a teenage girl with many needs gets in the way of that. So far I have $60 but I'm sure that will change because I'm hungry, lol. That means I'm buying food after school unless I can hold out until I get home which I don't that. If I do make it home with out spending money, I'm sure I'll spend some of that money by this weekend or the end of the week. The week has just begun its Monday -____________- hopefully I gain some will power.

Bullying

Bullying is a widespread and serious problem thoughout the nation. Bullying can cause serious and lasting harm. Actions done on purpose to control or harm someone with repition or even once IS BULLYING!
Bullying comes in many forms such as:
  • Verbal: name-calling, teasing
  • Social:spreading rumors, leaving people out on purpose, breaking up friendships
  • Physical: hitting, punching, shoving
  • Cyberbullying: using the Internet, mobile phones or other digital technologies to harm others
The effects of bullying are different for everyone. Some are shown
  • Be unwilling to attend school
  • Receive poor grades
  • Have lower self-esteem
  • Have more health problems
  • Use alcohol and drugs
  • Skip school
  • Victimization
The outcome of bullying can be tramendous. Studies show that at least half of suicides amoung young people are related to bullying. As the saying goes if you see something say something! Don't be afraid to speak out. If something, someone or even if you see something bothersome TELL SOMEONE. Dont wait until its too late.

I think Obama is sort of sugar coating things. Theres a difference between bullying and plain harrassment. He needs to encourage people to speak out because thats where it starts. If no one says anything the problems cant be fixed. Bullys have taken things to a whole new level and their should be legall action taken against them.

Pete King

U.S. Representative for New York's 3rd District, Republican Pete King is scapegoating muslisms. Claiming that they are responsible for terist attacks when in all honesty most terrist attacks and affliations are of Christian Americans. I dont see why hes even in government. With views like that which are unconstitutional he should be out of a job. There ae more pressing issues then attacking a religion or race.

Wednesday

Tuesday

Premartail Sex

Because of my religion I believe that Premarital Sex is wrong. As a Christain we believe that you should save yourself for marriage. As an issue to the cum unity I too believe that Premarital Sex is wrong. The rise of sexually transmitted diseases and birth are crazy. And besides that I personally think that sex is something special and important. I bond between two. Virginity is something that you can never get back. Something precious that should be cherished and shared with someone who values it just as much as you do. As generations progress the age for permaritail sex decreases be coming younger and younger. But over all ever one is different and sees things from different prospectives.

Friday

Queens Chruch Robbed

St. Bartholomew’s Church on Ithaca Street in Elmhurst, NY was robbed sometime after the congregation left around 7:30pm Saturday. The holy items were snatched from a back closet including five Chalices, two communion cups, and even a communion box. All items are worth an estimated $5,500. In my opinion this must have been an inside job, someone that visited the church or goes to the Church because there is no way a regular civilian would have the knowledge of when the Church is empty or where those items were. Well the person who did this clearly have no moral values because robbing a chruch is like stealing from the good Lord himself.

Thursday

US Retail

Gas prices in the US have been an issue now for years. People are starting to notice $3.50 a gallon throughout the country. Most of the nations retailers reported an increase in sales for the month of Feburary. Mr.Perkins. president of Retail Metrics stated that "Sales might have been better had we not seen this precipiteous rise in gas prices... if it is sustainable and goes to $4, it is really going to have an effect". Haley Barbour, Mississippi governer accused the Obama Administration of hiking energy costs in efforts to promote alternative fuels.
